face2 2 We're doing something new.
My name is David Kolssak and I am the President of TURNkey IT.  Over the last 18 years I have had the pleasure to be a part of this organization.  For those of you who know me, it will come as no surprise that we are going to attempt to do something new, fresh and fun with something that is typically mundane, boring and monotonous.  I proudly introduce "Through the Keyhole."
This electronic publication will come to you as often as we can produce it with interesting, informative stuff for you to read and digest.  We will introduce topics that we find interesting and human.  This may include re-printed articles, recipes, gadgets, jokes, travel tips, parenting advice (maybe), human interest stories and general information to hopefully make you smile and keep the family of TURNkey on your mind.  If you would like to subscribe to "Through the keyhole" click here.

It is my sincere hope to continue to grow TURNkey IT into a company that really matters to our customers, friends and the small world we touch every day.

We also invite your input for things to share with others.  Send any items you think are newsworthy, interesting or just plain odd to news@turnkey.pro

I welcome you to the first issue of Through the Keyhole.  And away we go...

Word of the Day

DSE0698 4Hawsehole - nautical  Often shortened to: hawse.  One of the holes in the upper part of the bows of a vessel through which the anchor ropes pass.

Penny

Penny_bigbangtheory 3Pennies are not legal tender in amounts over twenty-five, unless the recipient agrees to accept them. In other words, if a debtor owes you more than twenty-five cents and spitefully tries to pay you in pennies, you can legally refuse to accept them, without affecting  the debt.

Watch the Big Bang Theory.  It's on just about every channel (and the main character pictured here is named Penny).

Where's Channel 1?

TV-shutterstock_23301313 4 In the 1940s, the FCC assigned television's Channel 1 to mobile services (two-way radios in taxicabs, for instance) but did not re-number the other channel assignments. That is why TV sets had channels 2 and up, but no channel 1.  Now channel 1, of course, is for Pay Per View (or On Demand).

Quotable

An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You should never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience.

Celsius

2103 4Converting from Celsius to Fahrenheit is easy.  Simply multiply the Celsius temperature by 2 and add 30.  It's not exact but really close. So the next time you're in Turkey and you see a high of 29 C you'll know that to you it's 88 F ((29X2)+30).
Today's forecast (for practice):
Los Angeles     22 C
Madrid                8 C
Chicago           -11 C
Dallas               13 C
London               8 C
Sochi                  9 C

Travel

cruise 4Selecting a Cabin When selecting a cabin on a cruise ship (and especially if you are worried about being seasick), choose a cabin low and as close to the center as possible.  It is merely a question of physics.  Also, it is important to note the if there is smoking on board, it is almost always on the port side of the ship.

Try something new

SUP-Surf-Beach-front-Accommodations-Punta-Mita 4Paddle Surfing is becoming quite popular here there and everywhere.  Once you get the hang of it, it's a great way to strengthen your core, get some good exercise and have fun.  Try it sometime in the ocean or in a lake. It's great on almost any body of water.

Recipe to try (no kidding)In this section we will select a meal that has been tested by the folks here at TURNkey.  The one thing we will do here is give you a suggested recipe that is easy to make and REALLY GOOD.  We will also try to include only recipes that are seasonal.  This one is ingenious using ready to bake Grand Biscuits as dumplings and a roasted chicken from your grocery store.  - David

Ingredients

1 store-bought roasted whole chicken (chop meat into large pieces and set aside)
3 tablespoons good olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 32 oz. containers of chicken broth
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
5 medium carrots, chopped
5 stalks celery, chopped
1 (16 1/3 ounce) cans ready-to-bake refrigerated buttermilk flaky biscuits (Grands)
1 (12 ounce) jars chicken gravy

Directions

  1. In a Dutch oven, add olive oil and heat over medium heat; add chopped onions, carrots and celery and saute until soft.
  2. Add broth (both containers), poultry seasoning, salt, pepper to the carrots, celery and sauteed onion. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to simmer for about 10 minutes to soften vegetables and then add shredded chicken. Continue to simmer while preparing dumplings.
  3. Open can and remove biscuits. On a lightly floured surface, roll each biscuit to about 1/4-inch thick. Cut each biscuit into 4 wedges. Set aside.
  4. Skim surface of stew for any scum that has risen to top. Stir in chicken gravy.
  5. With the stew simmering over low heat, stir in dumplings a few at a time. Once all dumplings are in the pot, cover with a tight fitting lid and cook for 10 minutes.
