TURNkey turns 27 years old! Congrats!
|
|
Last
month, TURNkey celebrated its 27th birthday. Congrats to everyone who
has had a hand in our success and a big thank you to all of our
customers.
There
are a few principals we stand upon but none greater than the Golden Rule -
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It really is a
simple rule and yet sometimes hard to live by. However, that simple
principle is the foundation of the company and frankly, a civil
society. The Golden Rule transcends all religions, creeds and
colors.

Many
people have asked me about my allusion to a 13 month calendar. As
such, I did a little more research and have the following for you...
The
King of France, Charles IX, instituted the Gregorian calendar switch in
1564. Foremost was beginning the New Year on January 1st instead of on
April 1st. Problem was 16th century communications were not what they are
today. Of course, given the state of the current Twittering world, that may
have been a good thing.
Word
of the calendar change took several months, even years, to make its way
around Europe and beyond. Not surprisingly, there were those who resisted
the change, and instead preferred to maintain the status quo, which
included celebrating a new year beginning March 25 and culminating on April
1. Just imagine New Year’s Eve lasting eight days. Sounds a lot like Mardi
Gras to me.
Those
who refused to honor January 1 as the beginning of the New Year and instead
continued to use the April 1 demarcation became known as April Fools for
their obstinacy and resistance to change. As the lore goes, April 1 was
dubbed April Fools Day for those who clung to their old ways.
Those
poor fools, excuse the pun, who refused to accept the new calendar were
sent off on ridiculous errands and were made the butt of practical jokes,
like sticking signs on their backs that said “kick me.” It reminded me of
those good old school days.
Perhaps
because it took so long for the new calendar to be accepted, the practice
of nonsense on April 1st became an annual event. The silliness gradually
found its way to both the British and French colonies in America.
Apparently
traditions, whether good or bad, die hard.
I
am sure there is way more to it but it is interesting nonetheless.

Prediction for 2023 Cloud Computing

For
many organizations, the focus on the cloud space in 2023 will be firmly on
"taming cloud chaos." This will take place as we work on getting
to grips with the ever more complex ecosystems of public, private, hybrid,
and multi-cloud solutions that make up the average enterprise tech stack.
In fact, Deloitte tells us that 85 percent of businesses are using at least
two cloud platforms, and 25 percent are using as many as five. While this
heterogenous mix of tools and platforms can often result in all the flexibility
and options that we need, it can lead to businesses failing to fully
leverage the full range of benefits they have at their disposal, as well as
the creation of unnecessary expense.
When
I spoke with Mike Bechtel about this trend, he told me he likes to use an
analogy connected to the days of cord-cutting away from cable TV services.
“Remember
the early days of streaming? The value proposition was … I could lower my
bill and get most of what I wanted in this simple new interface. Well, if
you think about … the last ten years of the streaming revolution … you had
two streaming services, then four, then eight … it’s confusing and I wish
TV was easy like it used to be … and the cost arbitrage has lessened
because the added cost of all these streaming services is approaching what
we used to pay for the big cable bill!”
The
solution, Deloitte's report suggests, is a "layer of abstraction and
automation" that sits above the tangled cloud ecosystem, providing an
overview in the form of unified dashboards and control panels – a solution
sometimes referred to as "supercloud" or "sky
computing." This will be delivered in line with a paradigm that the
report terms "simplicity as a service."
We
will see what happens...

Oriental Chicken Salad
(can I say that anymore?)

For the Salad:
· 5 cups chopped romaine lettuce about 1 head
· 1 1/2 cups shredded red cabbage
· 1 1/2 cups shredded carrots
· 8 chicken cutlets grilled and generously seasoned (or breaded
and fried)
· 1/3 cup toasted sliced almonds
· 1/3 cup chow mein noodles
· 2 green onions chopped
For the Dressing:
· 1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
· 2 tablespoons hone
· 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
· 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
· 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
· 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
· 1-2 tablespoons nonfat milk if necessary
· Prepare the dressing: In a small bowl or
large measuring cup, combine the Greek yogurt, honey, vinegar, mustard,
sesame oil, and salt. Taste and add more salt as desired. If the dressing
is too thick for your liking, stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons milk, until the
desired consistency is reached.
· In a large mixing bowl, toss the romaine,
red cabbage, and carrots. Arrange the chicken tenders on top. Drizzle with
the dressing. Sprinkle with the chow mein noodles, almonds, and green
onion. Enjoy immediately.
