"This bronze statue may look like a man about to plummet
to his death but it's actually Sigmund Freud's likeness. This city has rich
history, stunning architecture, good beer and has one of the oldest
universities in Europe (1348). Also the location for films like Mission:
Impossible, Amadeus and The Chronicals of Narnia."

    Can you guess the

     It
is getting really close to the end of summer and every year it reminds me
of the times when my mother would take me to the store to get school
supplies.  It sucked.  As an adult with children it is a similar
experience as the kids leave for college or return to school.  I still
don't understand why they have to go back so many weeks before Labor
Day.  In Wisconsin, I think they do it right.  Return after Labor
Day and end in early June. Oh well.  People often feel a mix of
excitement fo the remainder of the summer and sadness that the season is
    almost over.

    However,
we do have the fall coming up and plenty to look forward to with that
season...college football, warm days and cool nights...enough talk of that
    for now.

    August
is when people wear flip-flops with sweaters or shorts with umbrellas, not
knowing what to expect from the weather. In offices, it's not uncommon to
see co-workers having thermostat wars, with some wanting to crank up the
A/C while others are wrapped in blankets.

    People
with birthdays in August sometimes feel like their celebrations get
overshadowed by summer vacations and back-to-school preparations.  I
don't really feel sorry for them.  I am just glad I don't have to go
    back to school.

    Some
notable things that happened in the month of August:

    August
1492: Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain on his first voyage,
    eventually reaching the Americas.

    August
1963: Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a
Dream" speech during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

    August
2005: Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast of the United States, causing
widespread destruction and loss of life.

    August
1991: The World Wide Web became publicly available, marking a significant
milestone in the history of the internet and communication.

    August
1969: The Woodstock Music & Art Fair, a landmark counterculture event,
took place in upstate New York.

    Take

"This capital city, once thought to be the farthest edge
of the known world, has an economy that has historically been based on the
fishing industry.  With its friendly people, trolley cars and culture,
you can catch one of the biggest waves in the world just a couple hours
    away from this city."

    Lisbon,
Portugal's vibrant and coastal capital, holds a captivating secret beneath
its streets—a mysterious and ancient network of tunnels and catacombs known
as the "Galerias Romanas." These hidden passageways date back to
the Roman era and have remained largely undiscovered for centuries.

    The
Galerias Romanas were accidentally unearthed in 1771 when workers were
excavating the Rossio Square, one of Lisbon's main squares. The workers
stumbled upon a well-preserved section of Roman galleries that had been
concealed under layers of history and urban development. Archaeologists
later confirmed that these tunnels were part of a complex water supply
system constructed by the Romans over two millennia ago.

    Portugal's
captivating capital, has a fascinating blend of old-world charm and vibrant
modernity that draws visitors from all over the globe. One particularly
intriguing aspect of Lisbon is its vibrant street art scene.

    In
recent years, Lisbon has become a hub for street artists from around the
world, who have transformed the city's walls, buildings, and even trams
into captivating works of art. Wander through the streets of neighborhoods
like Bairro Alto, Alfama, and Intendente, and you'll discover a visual feast
of colorful murals, thought-provoking graffiti, and creative expressions
that breathe life into the city's urban spaces.

    What's
even more intriguing is that street art in Lisbon often goes beyond just
aesthetics. Many of these street artworks carry powerful social, political,
or cultural messages, reflecting the city's rich history, contemporary
issues, and the artists' personal stories.

    The
urban art movement in Lisbon has not only enhanced the city's aesthetic
appeal but also revitalized previously neglected areas, turning them into
vibrant and dynamic districts that showcase creativity and self-expression.
The street art scene has become an integral part of Lisbon's cultural
identity, offering locals and visitors alike an unconventional way to explore
    the city's heart and soul.

    From
large-scale murals that cover entire buildings to smaller, hidden gems
tucked away in narrow alleys, Lisbon's street art surprises and delights at
every turn. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a curious traveler, or someone
who simply appreciates creativity in unexpected places, exploring Lisbon's
street art scene is an enthralling and enriching experience that adds a
whole new dimension to your visit to this captivating city.

       An elementary
School Teacher had twenty-six students in her class. She presented each
child in her classroom the 1st half of a well-known proverb and asked
them to come up with the remainder of the proverb. It's hard to believe
these were actually done by fourth graders.

      Their insight
      may surprise you.

      While reading,
keep in mind that these are fourth-graders, 10-year-olds, because the
      last one is a classic!
