"Hosting 2 million visitors each year, this canyon laiden park can be visited any time of year even though it gets cold.  You can stay at the lodge if you like but this place is for hiking and exploring.  And it might be closer than you think."

Can you guess the location?

It's College Football Season!

One of the only good things that happens after summer is over is football season.  I am not that big of an NFL fan, but college football makes me happy.  Seeing the stands full of students and super fans...the marching bands, the cadence, the tailgating.  It's all exciting.

Being a student at a university with a great football team is an exhilarating experience that adds a whole new level of excitement to college life. The energy on campus is electric, especially during football season, and it creates a sense of community and pride that’s hard to find anywhere else. Unfortunately, Purdue is NOT an elite football school so I wouldn't know anything about that...

However, we do have a great stadium and a lot of great things to enjoy.

Game days are massive events, often starting early in the morning with tailgating parties. The campus is alive with the scent of barbecues, the sound of music, and the sight of students, alumni, and fans decked out in school colors. It’s a time to bond with friends, make new ones, and soak in the pre-game festivities.

Attending games in a packed stadium, where the roar of tens of thousands of fans echoes around you, is nothing short of thrilling. Cheering for your team alongside your classmates, participating in chants, and celebrating every touchdown creates an unmatched sense of unity. The noise, the excitement, and the sheer intensity of the atmosphere make every game unforgettable.

The excitement is amplified during rivalry games. The anticipation builds all week, with pep rallies, special events, and heightened school spirit. Beating your rival feels like the ultimate victory, and the celebrations afterward are legendary.

Universities with great football teams often have long-standing traditions that make the experience even more special. Whether it’s singing the fight song, participating in a pre-game ritual (like jingling your keys during kickoff), or joining the student section in coordinated cheers (like "IU Sucks"), these traditions create a deep connection to your school’s history and culture.

Being a fan means experiencing the full range of emotions, from the euphoria of a last-second victory to the heartbreak of a close loss. These emotional highs and lows are part of what makes being a student at a football powerhouse so memorable. They give you stories to tell for years to come and memories that define your college experience.

After graduation, the bond you form with fellow students and alumni who shared the football experience stays with you. Alumni events, game-day reunions, and a lifelong connection to your team provide a sense of continuity and belonging long after you’ve left campus.

Although Summer Is Over, September Is Still Great ...

September offers some of the most pleasant weather of the year. The scorching heat of summer begins to mellow, making way for crisp mornings and comfortable afternoons. It’s a month where you can still enjoy the outdoors without the oppressive humidity, whether you're hiking, biking, or simply taking a walk in the park.

September marks the beginning of the stunning transformation of nature. The leaves start to change from green to vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. The scenery becomes a colorful tapestry that invites you to appreciate the beauty of the natural world. It’s the perfect time for weekend drives, picnics, and enjoying the early signs of fall.

September is a time of abundance, as the harvest season is in full swing. Farmers' markets are overflowing with fresh produce—apples, pumpkins, squash, and more. It’s the ideal time to indulge in seasonal cooking, try out new recipes, and savor the flavors of fall. The comfort of warm, hearty meals is something to look forward to as the days grow cooler.

As summer’s frenetic pace winds down, September offers a chance to slow down and enjoy life at a more relaxed rhythm. The hustle and bustle of vacations and summer activities give way to a more reflective time, where you can focus on what truly matters and appreciate the quieter moments.

While summer is undoubtedly special, September offers a gentle, welcoming transition into the beauty of autumn. It’s a month that invites us to embrace change, appreciate the present, and look forward to the cozy, colorful season ahead. So, as we say farewell to summer, let’s remember that September is still great in its own unique way.

And say NO to pumpkin lattes...

Guess the Location Game

Last month the winner of the guess the location game was
John Kennedy who guessed the right answer.  I appreciate all of the participation.  THANKS FOR PLAYING!

ANSWER: Bellagio Hotel Lobby, Las Vegas NV

"This particular lobby is decorated with some really cool glass blown artwork.  It is one of a kind and made for this location.  Millions of people visit this town every year hoping to take some winnings home."

The Bellagio Hotel was built on the former Dunes Resort property and opened in October of 1998.  This property was built by Steve Wynn and was the most expensive and opulent resort built in Las Vegas at that time.  Its theme was inspired by the Lake Como (Italy) town of Bellagio.  Its design evokes the elegance and beauty of European art and culture.

Mostly, it's really cool.  The moment you walk into the lobby you are greeted with beautiful flowers and they scent the air with a very masculine but welcoming smell.  They have a conservatory that changes a few times a year that showcases amazing flowers and plants.

The casino is elegant and yet not stuffy.

The restaurants are good but pricey.

The pool area is large and amazingly tasteful.  You feel like you are in Italy when you see the trees and plantings that surround it.

There's a restaurant called Picasso there (French) that has a dozen or so original paintings by the artist.  Prime steakhouse is elegant and what you would expect for a high end steak joint.

I just took my son with some friends and my wife there for his 21st birthday.  We had an absolute blast and needless to say, the boys didn't make it to breakfast...

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas... or so they say.

Next time you visit the City of Lights, you may want to give it a try.  You won't be disappointed.

Little Johnny.

Little Johnny’s neighbor just had a baby. Sadly, the baby was born without any ears.

When the mum and baby came back home from the hospital, Johnny’s family was invited over to see the baby. Before they left their house, Little Johnny’s dad had a chat with him and explained how the baby had no ears.

Johnny’s dad also told him that if he so much as mentioned anything about the baby’s missing ears or even said the word “ears,” he would get the hiding of his life when they came back home.

Little Johnny told his dad he understood and agreed not to mention the baby’s lack of ears.

Johnny looks in the bassinet and says, “Wow, what a beautiful baby.” The mother replies, “Why, Thanks, Johnny.” Johnny says, “He has beautiful little feet, beautiful little hands, a cute little nose, and really beautiful eyes. Is he able to see alright?”
“Yes,” says the mum, “we are so grateful, the Doctor said he will have perfect vision.”

“That is great,” says Little Johnny, “cause he’d be fu#&ed if he needed glasses!”
